Benefits of the Pathways Transfer Program with Jefferson Community College

  • You can transfer your entire associate degree, as long as the courses meet degree requirements for the bachelor’s degree you design.
  • You can take additional credits at Jefferson Community College in your first year at Empire State College. You can transfer up to 80 lower-level credits towards your bachelor’s degree. If your associate degree includes 64 credits, you have the option of taking some or all of the remaining 16 credits at Jefferson Community College. These additional credits can be used to satisfy SUNY general education requirements or core courses in your concentration.
  • You will be eligible for financial aid for upper level courses once accepted to Empire State College.

The Pathways Transfer Program is a partnership between Jefferson Community College and Empire State College that makes it possible to earn your bachelor’s degree without leaving home. The program can help you succeed by easing the transition from classroom-based learning at Jefferson Community College to an engaging blend of independent study, online courses, study groups and residencies found at Empire State College.

When you enroll at Empire State College, you will be assigned a faculty mentor who will advise and work with you until you graduate. With the guidance of your mentor, you will develop a degree program that connects your educational, career and personal goals.

Credit for Prior Learning

You have the opportunity to earn academic credit for knowledge you’ve acquired before studying at Empire State College. Your mentor will help you identify prior college-level learning that is relevant to your degree program and eligible for credit.

Sources of such prior college-level learning include:

  • transcript credit earned at other regionally accredited colleges and universities
  • individualized prior learning assessment
  • examination programs like CLEP and DSST
  • trainings that have been evaluated by the American Council on Education (ACE) or National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS)
  • military training.
